Design? Do you mean Electronic Design, Graphic Design, Bridge Design?
If you meant Graphic design, then YES, a mac book pro is perfect for that.
All of this IS available on a PC, but for Print Media work, I would recommend the MAC.
Good luck

Soon after the first Macintosh was made, around 1984, it became the darling of the printing, publishing, graphic design and photographic industries. As late as 5 years ago, most professionals in these industries used Macs rather than Windows computers. That is changing now because of Windows XP and because from about 1990-1998, Apple lost a lot of momentum in innovation while Steve Jobs was sent away from the company. During that time, Apple also failed to sell agressively to schools which means lots of kids switched to Windows use.
Now the creative pendulum is definitely swinging back to Apple's side but because so many young people have not really had the chance to get their hands on a Mac for extended use, the creative industries will probably be a mix between Mac and Windows for the next few years.
When you say "PC doesn't have much", do you mean applications? I don't think Windows software is lacking in the design area like it was 15 years ago when you couldn't even get Quark XPress for Windows. Nowadays, you should be able to find most of what you want for Windows. If you mean "out of the box", maybe Apple does provide quite a lot of creative software with their computers but for professional graphic design, you will still need to get Photoshop and maybe InDesign. These are available for Mac or Windows so you really have to make the choice based on what you like to use. Many creative people like to use Mac because it is more intuitive, thus it takes less time to use it, and it has better security, so you will loose less time from virus invasions.

For Graphic design, movie editing and visual design then yes, a Macbook Pro would be good for that. It can run Windows and Linux if you need other applications that were on a PC to run on a mac. If you buy from an  store, then you could customize the MAcbook Pro to have different types of screens and HD memory. But Yes, I would recomend a Macbook Pro.
