You can say something to her and she will jump and be scared, sit something beside and and she will jump start to cry like something is wrong. I have noticed most of the time it is loud noises when this happens to her. Just wondering why she gets startled so easy?

My baby son did too, it lasted a long time for him to relax..he was about 10 months old...i just assumed he was ( and he is) a very sensitive child..even if some body talked different he became soo scared and cried, he is now 22 months old and seems to out growns for the most part. You just need to hold him more and comfort the baby and let the baby now it's ok Mommy is here ( or Daddy)

Newborn babies are very fragile in every sense of the word. They are used to being in a tight place where the noises are muffled, then all of a sudden its not. It just takes time for baby to get the hang of whats going on. When I had twins, I swaddled them and made sure enough of the blanket would cover the back of their heads and ears, so it muffled the sound a bit. That was the only thing I could do to keep them calm overall was to swaddle them. Then I could get a break, lol!

Early on startling is just a reflex. It fades over time.

My baby startles very easily, but then I guess so do I... she's almost a year old and this is going away. As she experiences more and more things less startle her.

Take care,

My middle child was like that, too. I think it's because their nervous systems aren't fully developed. My son who did this was premature. He didn't like any sudden moves or to be held with your arms outstretched. He liked to be swaddled with a blanket, pretty tight, and laid down with his head touching the top and side of the bassinet. If I laid him in the middle without his head touching anything, he'd freak. He did outgrow it, so don't worry too much about it. You will learn quickly what your little girl likes and dislikes and you will be able to accommodate her until she outgrows it. Good luck!
