And how do you get out of it? I hate it with a burning hatred.
I notice the bosses aren't on-call where I work. I will be on-call all of Thanksgiving holiday.

Amber, this is a recent thing added to my work load. I didn't apply for it.

I am with you. IT SUCKS!! And the people in charge always seem to make sure it won't effect them or their families. Let's throw poop at them.

I was on-call for a year. I hated it because I didn't know if I was going to work or not so I still had to get up early to get ready in case they called. The earliest they would call was at 6:30 a.m. and the latest was 8:45 a.m. I finally got a full time position and now I can sign up to be on-call for weekends and holidays.

I've been there and feel for ya. I used to be on-call about every four weeks, now that I'm in a new position I'm on it 24/7. But it's just for the people in my group that I work with if they have problems. It's better then pulling a generator in the rain.

Being On Call means you have a job. Doesn't it allow you to have a roof over your head and food to eat? Either be thankful you have one, or quit.

i absolutely hate it...and i'm almost always on call! it never fails that when you're on call, everything cool happens, and you miss it cuz you're tethered to your pager at home.
