My son wants to give his "girlfriend" a gift (no occasion) what would be a gift that would be appropriate for that age and wouldn't send the girls parents into an early grave?

I think a nice figurine of some sort would be appropriate. If she likes cats, get her one of a cat. She is a dog lover? Get her a dog. Something related to that suggestion would be to get her a little stuffed toy.
You have to ask yourself, what does she like? Is she a reader? Maybe a gift certificate to a local bookstore would be appropriate, perhaps wrapped up with some candy.
It can't be too lovey-dovey at that age, especially. The important thing to remember that it has to come from the heart, not be too expensive, yet have meaning for the girl and your son.
I think what he wants to do is very cute. It tells you what kind of husband he will be in the future -- for this girl or more likely for another girl around the bend.

I don't think the girl's parents would see it as a proposal ! I think it's a sweet idea. I have a 13 yr old niece and she loves stuff from places like Clare's Accessories and Tammy Girl, that's if you're in the UK. She bought a chain with a diamante type initial on it and some matching ear-rings, at Clare's yesterday. I think they cost about £7 in all, but they do have lots of other stuff.

10 year old boy - nerf makes a lot of fun toys in the $10-15 range. 13 year old girl - gift card to target, she will love the money and is probably very into make-up (which you would not want to pick out for her), write what its for on the gift card if you want it to be more personal.

a nice little charm bracelet (not filled with charms) or a nice little necklace with a simple charm on it. Some cutsy fashionable peirced earings if her ears are peirced.
a diary, T-shirt with some cool 13yr old fad celebraty on it.. lol..

this is of no importance. i don't think a parent should ask such a quest on behalf of ur son. just the reality, hope i didn't cause no harm. we all learn from our mistakes, hope u learned something.
