The size of the floor space you're willing to provide will determine how many piggies you keep. I would not suggest putting a male in with the females unless you are prepared for breeding. They do breed quite readily. Guinea pigs can be over-bred quite easily. Below is a link specifically for the amount of space needed for a particular amount of piggies AND some very easy and inexpensive cages to house them in...:-)

If you have a Hagen cage then you can have three live together comfortable enough. As for how many females to males you can have together in the cage, i would say two females and one male.

how big is the area where you are keeping them?

I used to run one male and about four females together---but they had most of the yard to play in
