I don't know maybe Mom stands for mother of mine. Hey that's pretty good and I just came up with that. LOL

mom is just short of saying mother may I, my kids asked the same question and I told them its a respect towards mothers and fathers to say mom or dad not mother or father unless your mad then you say mother or father. It's like we all have nick names from our paretns but when there mad they call us by our real full name.
