Good answer Bob. I've got a 5.3 as well. 2001 though, so stock specs are a bit less. 285 from the factory, and I got mine putting out around 340 to the ground. Jet mass air flow sensor, K&N FIPK intake kit, Flowmaster exhaust and Hypertech Power 3 programmer. Want more than that? Headers, pullies, lifters, cam, throttlebody, throttlebody spacer, electric fans (if yours didnt come stock with them, I know some do), and supercharger. Those are the most common upgrades. But with just my stuff aforementioned, I've got about 340 to the ground, making it pretty quick. Quick enough to get my buddy's 2001 Cobra ;) www.stylinconcepts.com is a good place to get any parts for your truck, along with ebay. Want some more ideas or info, email me. Good luck!

First off, scrap the Hypertech Power Programmer III option listed above...it's a waste of money that maybe advances your timing 4 degrees. Go for a custom tune from wait4me, nelson, or wester's. Get the K&N FIPK, some Pacesetter long tube headers, ditch the cats, install an offroad Y pipe and some good mufflers. I also reccommend a good camshaft, the Thunder Racing 224/224 is popular, their 228 is good as well but is more agressive and thus a little wild on the street at idle. Put in a 3000 stall w/some 4.10's and you'll have a SRT10 killer 5.3 on your hands.

If you want a ton of power, like around 700 horses (with a stock engine), replace the motor with a 572 C.I. Crate Motor that chevy has out.
But if you wanna keep the 5.3 litter engine you already have... which I'm sure it should still be in great condition for only bein' a year old. A few good aftermarkets like a turbocharger (good for high end power), bigger exhaust (duel exhaust even better), duel carbs, cold air intake, and a super chip. If you add some or all of these parts ya outta be a ton of power outta the 5.3 L. But even more if ya did that to the 572 C.I. Crate.
