My computer wont boot up properley and it is closing down after a couple of seconds saying the above. I have a HP Pavillion PC. The CPU fan is working and not making any strange noises, I have tried using the steps recommended by HP but they arent working the system keeps shutting down beford it boots up for me to do anything. Has anyone got any ideas on what to do as I e mailed HP 3 days ago and they haveny got back to me yet?

You Bios change is probably the problem. The wrong Bios may have been used or the Bios flash failed.

Hard to say without an exact log or copy of all said active processes and programs, seeing as though you did not say exactly what type of CPU you have (single core, dual core, quad, etc...) There are a lot of things that could be causing your computer to do this other than simply a virus, malware or worm (a worm is the most unlikely of culprits unless you're running a server.) Under the assumption that your problem is a virus, then I would suggest the following: 1. Clean up your pc : Delete all temp files (internet and all others,) and then defrag your hard drive. However, if you can use the trial of PC doctor or if you already own said program, it makes your life way easier. Also, if there are any type of programs you no longer use, it is best to delete them now so that when you scan your computer (see the next step,) that you will have less to scan thus making it not take as long. There are also some programs (if you happen to have them,) that you might want to think about tossing for the time being such as p2p programs like bittorrent, limewire, or utorrent. Even programs that enable virtual networks, or that allow remote access to your computer such as Hamachi. Just until your figure out what the culprit is. 2. Run scans with an anti virus using a trial or a free version of one of the following: Malware bytes (free), Avast (Home Edition is free), Microsof Essentials (free with legitimate copy of Windows, which is obtained from the official Microsoft site) , Zone Alarm (free trial), Kaspersky (free trial), or Norton (free trial). If the problem persists, then I would suggest reformatting your computer and avoiding all p2p type programs in the future. Another few possibilities (however, I feel it is most likely a virus, but cannot say for sure due to the fact I have no logs): 1. Your computer may need to be dusted out, as it could slow down your fans and cause over heating or other types of hardware failure. 2. You may be very close to your hard drive's capacity which ends up not giving your computer's vital functions to be able to fully preform thus taking up your ability to do anything on your end.

Usually, there are two or more fans--one at the CPU to draw heat away from the processor and one at the front or back of the case to circulate air into and out of the case. So, just because you hear a fan doesn't mean that it is the fan to cool the CPU.
Once the temperature of any part of the computer's CPU, motherboard, etc., reaches 185 degrees, parts are being damaged. Take your computer to a repair shop ASAP--DO NOT RUN A COMPUTER IF YOU ARE GETTING MESSAGES THAT THE CPU FAN IS NOT WORKING!

this is easy to fix, your fan has too much junk like dust and lint collected on it if you take a small screww driver open the back and just dust off the fan with a light brush it should work like new again
just like a fan in your living room the cpu fan collects dust and too much clogs it up,
remember the dust is going to fly everywhere so don't dust it off on your bed, i used an old paint brush i had lying around and it worked just fine just remember to be gentle and carefull because there is a lot of sensitive stuff back there... this should work if you have anymore probolems feel free to ask anything else..

I once had a customer's PC which would only run for a few minutes before the processor overheated and caused temporary system failure. The fan grill was totally blocked with kitty fur! Once I cleaned the fur off completely, the PC ran just fine.

Try replacing the CPU fan - that's the cheap fix. If that doesn't work, you need a new motherboard.

This sounds like a motherboard failure, we get this kind of call everyday at work, and 9 out of 10, the motherboard is the culprit.

I used a small desk fan aimed at the vents no the back for my computer for about a year.it worked better than the internal fan. but open the case and clean the dust out about every 6 month. use an air Duster for this.
