I love the Simpson's, and most of the time I think that they are in Illinois, but some episodes seem to put them in other states. I really don't think we will ever get a true answer to exactly where they live. Part of their comedy is us trying to figure it out!

Impossible to tell..... it could be Springfield, Illinois........ but then on "THE SIMPSONS: Hit&Run" game I recall on the opening level one half of the game map is set in the "989" phone area code..... which in real life is used somewhere in Michigan..... while the other side is area code is "686".... which doesn't seem to be in use anywhere (judging by a Google search), except perhaps in Mexico.
In another level on the game, it requires Marge to help Cletus "harvest" ketchup packets....... and requires you to acquire Marge's Prison uniform, which has "Florida State Prison" (well, "Florida State" something) printed on the back.

I am a huge fan too. I have seen several episodes where they say if you put all the clues together you can figure it out....
I have never been able to put it together....
