I think it is the Computer, more particular, the Desktop Computer (IBM-PC).

Thereafter, computer's related peripherals and Cell/Mobile Phone technology with invention of Satellites etc. You see, all these are intertwined technologies invented in the past century.

You may consider already obsolete Telex, fixed line Telephones, Fax Machine and such mass communication facilities which made this world like a small village, and the overall productivity of the people has increased many folds due to these electronics gadgets' inventions.

So, in a nutshell it is primarily the Computer technology that has been the most amazing invention ever happened.

The wheel. Not only large wheels on vehicles in order to move things, but also the wheel led to the rotary motion necessary in pulleys, gears, just about everything. Without the principle of the wheel, a round object turning on an axel, nothing else of value would have been invented.

I think that clean running water is the most valuable invention for mankind. Having clean water readily available makes so many other aspects of modern life possible. It provides for hygiene, industrial processes, agriculture, and recreation.

I liked your question. It made me think. There are many truly marvelous inventions around, but I think the one so basic as clean water would be the one most missed if it weren't available.

Electricity. It made life so much easier after sunset. Moreover, most gadgets including PCs, music systems, etc. work on electrictiy....Think about it.. How did people live before electricity.....Isn't it amazing
