Firefox 2.0 came out a couple of days after the much vaunted IE 7, and within 48 hours was pronounced far superior to IE 7. I've been using Firefox for 18 months and have no complaints. Everytime I use IE I get some or other virus infection.

Free, fast, a small 5mb download, Firefox blocks pop-ups and sites from secretly installing programs on your computer. It will copy over your settings from other browsers (cookies, settings, bookmarks). Firefox is powerful too, it's more up-to-date than even IE7 according to the web standards (w3.org).
The main reason I like Firefox is because it's customizable.
Why is customizability important?
Imagine being able to do 2 small things and never seeing a banner ad, flash ad or an iframe ad again? (Remember, pop-ups are already gone)
Imagine being able to pause your computer's music player when the phone rings without having to switch to it?
Firefox puts the power back in your hands!

Firefox is must better.
Some advantages include:
tabbed browsing (copied by IE now)
built-in spell checker (with many different languages, too)
much safer browsing
bookmarks toolbar
different themes for the browser
add-ons for many different purposes
and many more!

Active X is a Microsoft technology designed to let websites install software on your pc. Firefox isn't written by Microsoft and doesn't support active x. People who write viruses and trojans also use active x to deliver them to your pc, so Firefox is the safer option for visiting new sites.
If you only want I.E. installed then just remember to switch off active x until you need it.

Fox is immune to ActivX attacks, most scripting attacks and trying to initiate a brute force download of something onto your PC by embeddding it in the HTML. In Fox you can disable the ability of a web page to manipulate your browser window using Javascript, which is a HUGE advantage over IE.
If the Fox smells something bad on a web page, a pop-up warning or inquiry usually appears asking you if you want to download something or do a particular task. If you're not sure, just click "No" or "Cancel" to whatever it is. IE often doesn't give you the chance to stop it.
