Do you feel we are overtaxed in our economy? Are you postponing any purchases due to high taxes? Do we have too many imported goods in our economy?

I'm Canadian. Our taxes are relatively high, but we get a lot for it, including health care. If we didn't have the health care system we have, my husband and I would be bankrupt right now and he would probably not be alive. We are not postponing any purchases because of taxes, and we have a very modest income - pensions. And the only way we will ever have fewer imported goods is if we as consumers become willing to pay more for our goods - goods are produced very cheaply in less fortunate countries than ours by people who have to struggle much more for survival than we do. I hope my thoughts on this issue help.

There is a lot of waste in government but I have noticed that the people that cry most about taxes seem to demand more from the government and never refuse to drive down the highway the government build with tax money. They surely don't want the government to spend money on the things they disapprove of and think that more should be spent on things they like. As for imported good I think it is bad but I surely don't want to pay more for the shirt I am wearing which was made in Korea or China. Sometimes things are not as simple as we would like them to be.

In the United States, we consider ourselves "free", but any form of involuntary taxation contradicts that status.

If you will look up the definition of "theft" in a Law Dictionary, and contemplate the system of involuntary income taxation, you will see that taxation is theft. The fact that it is legalized theft does not change the nature any more than imprisonment by the criminal justice system changes the nature of one being in prison.

In addition, if you would consider the percentage of the total Gross Domestic Product which is consumed by governments from local to federal, it is obvious that we are vastly overtaxed.
