some dvds will not play on my pc, but they will play in my dvd player for the tv. windows explorer will not even read it. i have 4 computers and none of them will even read the disc. i put it in my friends computer and it plays and windows explorer read it, why???

it depends on a few different factors......the type of disc (dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw, dual layer, blu-ray etc.) what your dvd-rom is capable of reading (types of discs it recognizes) and which program you are using to view the dvd (windows media player, cineplayer, quicktime, realplayer etc.) and whether they have the right codec installed to play the dvd.

because the drivers are different and or the hardware is different. e.g. older hardware may not pick up newer dvd's as the quality of the dvd "pressings" ger worse (cheaper) over time and the old hardware is not sensitive enough, drivers have an impact too
