I think you mean double blind experiment. This is the test where both the person who administering the test and the person under the test do not know the answer.

It has been awhile. Back when I was doing research we called it double blind. The concept was that you had a group of test subjects that the trial medication was to be given to. Some of the subjects got the medication and others got a placebo. The medication and the placebo were given random numbers. The subjects were matched with the numbers at random. The subjects did not know if they were getting the medication or the placebo. Neither did the people that were administering or monitoring the results. Only until after the trial period was over was the master copy of the list reveled. All the data was collected without anyone knowing what was what. This eliminated any bias from the observers and participants in the experiment.

I think you're referring to double blind tests.

Those are tests that are designed to determine whether a medicine is actually effective or not, to correct for the placebo effect. It's well known that people can receive dummy pills (sugar capsules are common) and still receive therapeutic benefit if they THINK they are receiving actual medication; this is the placebo effect. To correct for this, in a medication trial they give a certain fraction of the test subjects and another set fake pills with no medicinal content, and compare the results.

It's a double blind test because neither the test subject nor the technician distributing the pills knows which are real and which are placebos. That is to eliminate the possibility of the doctor inadvertently tipping the patient off as to which group they are really in.
