I'll agree with everyone else's answers ... this type of relationship is called mentoring (Big Brothers/Sisters is a prime example where young children are mentored by adults; however this also works well in business, sports or overcoming addictions).

It is called mentoring.... that is where the "mentoring program" comes from.. an older person assisting/aiding a younger person.. in school or whatever

well if the relationship provides support guidance and counceling, than the relationship is Menoring, meaning you come out of it wiser than when you began, if you end up coming out at all!
