Just bring the needle and silk through the fabric from the underneath, wind the silk round and round the needle and then push the needle and wound silk through the fabric from on top through to the back and the silk will slip off the needle in a knot and secure on the back..
I hope this helps but it is very difficult to describe in words!
Good luck!

Dear Marianne, You do such wonderful work! I also enjoy your questions too! I hope you will keep asking too! I have this problem at work. Yesterday I was told at a retreat that I am green. Now, plainly I am either pink with purple stripes or purple with pink stripes. I also don't appreciate the inference that I am inexperienced! Anyhow, the next day (today) I wasn't paying attention to my wardrobe decisions and now everyone is reminded that I am somehow "green!" Don't get me wrong, I think the environment is a dandy thing, but I don't think they are talking about my recycling habits. Just as concerning, I learned that most of my coworkers - even my boss - are blue and the rest are yellow! Now how am I supposed to cheer them up and get them some courage in the face of being an OSU alumni? Do I look green to you? Sincerely, Still smiling, Cheshire Cat

Pull your thread thru the spot where you want the knot. With the needle pointing down at the spot you just came through, wind thread about 5 times around the needle, pull the little round ball of thread of the needle with your thumb on your other hand, hold it there and go back through the same spot and tack it in place with the needle ending up going thru the hole. It is very hard to explain. Go to a sewing shop and ask one of those nice little ladies to show you. It is very easy, just hard to explain. I am sorry. I am expert, just don't know how to explain. My Daddy, bless his soul, showed me when I was a little girl of 5.

Bring your needle up through the fabrc...
wrap the thread around the needle two times holding the thread downward from the needle....
tilt the needle upward and push it back through the fabric very very close to the original hole but not into the hole....
it should make a nknot by the thread pulling down through the two loops of thread
good luck
