Because Britain imposed heavy taxes on all of the thriving industries here in America after the 1st colonies were settling in. They were still our governing force then and we were trying to get away from them and be our own country, not under their rule. It was a way of rebelling against England/Britain. We figured, well if we have to give away most of our goods to a greedy ruler, I say, if we cannot have what we worked so hard to earn, they certainly aren't going to just take it away. Dump it in the water. If I can't have it, you can't either.

The people got sick and tired of The British putting high taxes on just about everything...especially Tea.
They got so fed up, they boarded British ships in the harbor and began to toss the cargo of Tea into the harbor.
