Because 90 % of PCs have Windows installed and the persons who create the viruses want to damage as many computers as they can.

Viruses are written to take advantages of security holes in the operating system. The purpose of the virus is to generate havoc or to steal information from a computer. Most of the computers operate on Windows format. The machine language for the Mac is different than the IBM or IBM clones operating the windows format. The virus calls the machine language to run its program. The commands to execute the programs do not exist on the Mac so the virus can not perform its function.

Because
a) Less people are willing to write viruses for them. The less number of viruses that exist, the less chance a Mac user will get one.
b) In the case of Mac OS X, it's based on "Linux". This is a rock-solid security-oriented operating system that gives everything permissions. If you ever DO get a virus, the virus usually only affects your own files, and not any of the system-critical ones. That way you can login to a special Administrator account and remove the virus.

As the other poster said,
Less people write viruses for MAC computers, since it is a less popular operating system...
However, Mac OSX is based on UNIX.
with that correction, the second part of that posters answer becomes MOSTLY correct for OSx

1. A lot of people hate Bill Gates
2. Most people use Windows- so making viruses for it make life profitable, cause they can sell more cures and anti-virus software, security software etc. The economy goes round and round on that idea.
3. Since almost the whole world uses Windows, to make it crash is one hell of an EGO BOOSTER!
I use Mac BTW
