They vary greatly in features and price, amything from £100 up, and yes. are very useful.
There shouldn't be any installing, just plug and play (usually in the cigarette lighter socket).
Full (7 digit) post code search is useful.
Some extras include - speed camera location and road traffic conditions.
Screen size can be important too, and, how quick it calculates a route can vary.
One other very useful feature - auto correction, so, if you take a wrong turn it re-routes for you.
Most can be upgraded also for Europe and/or USA - costs more though.

Go and buy one. I picked the Tom-Tom One. Unpack it. Fit the maps memory card in the slot on the bottom. Plug the wire into the cig lighter. Stick the stalk to the screen. Switch on and tell it where you live.

My wife uses it every day on her way to and from clients all over the country. She had major problems finding places with maps and driving directions before. It is the best thing I have ever bought.

My mum who is 70 bought one after trying mine. If she can do it so can you.

Its brilliant, you just tell it where you want to go and a voice directs you clearly. 'Turn left at next junction' etc, its easy to set your destination and easy to follow the voice instructions, muche asier than having to pull over and try to map read.
