Long term it's considered a bad idea. Short term most people consider it good idea to give a betta a few minutes of mirror time ever few days. Certainly mine seem happily, and more active afterward.

I am pretty sure that the mirror will probably stress the poor fish out because, well, they are fighting fish. Your grandpa probably put the mirror there so that he would flare up and get hostile, but although it might be alright to do that every once and a while just for show, it is not good for it to always be like that.

the 1st component of the advice you have been given is right, the temperature could be close once you replace out water, yet some degress won't harm him any. Now, sixty two is rather cool for a betta, specific, they might stay in it and do ok, yet to thrive they want warmer water. with the help of the variety you discribe his events, i'm prepared to wager the tank is warmer than that, in all possibility seventy two or greater effective. The plastic plant will maximum probable not harm his fins, however the possiblity is there. For a tank that length and a betta, i might recommend crystalwort of badderwort in my opinion. the two are floating flora that help administration nitrates and nitrites interior the water, so as that is a sturdy factor. they're additionally extremely hardy and easy to maintain around. The consistent rubbing may well be an illustration of difficulty. each so often while fish rub that is through fact they have a parasite, like ick to illustrate. look ahead to any bumps lumps or spots on him... of direction, he might merely be doing that for relaxing. the different belongings you're discribing is all ordinary breeding behaviour. The swimming rapid flaring etc. that is not something to fret approximately in any respect.

I don't believe that it is best to have a mirror on them as they would consider their own reflection as a threat and go into defencive mode. it could stress the fish and shorted the life span.

beta fish are jealous. when they see another beta they get all angry. you put two betas together and they will fight to the death. they're so stupid that they can't tell the difference between another fish nd their own reflection.

If left for too long it will stress them since they will continuously try to fight their own reflection. Most people would suggest only leaving it there for a few minutes to excite him, which can be good and actually brighten their colors.

If your fish is really vain, like my Sam Sammy, then he will spend all day lookin in the mirror! And with a 3 sec. memory span, it will be a great new experience every four seconds!
Wow...we should all be so lucky.
