You can definitely just toss it in the washing machine - set your machine to cold water and gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent and then hang it to dry. There should be no problem.
If it is too big for your home washing machine, you can go to a laundromat and use their larger machines - just make sure you can set it to cold/gentle.
Good luck!

How big is the comforter? If it is a huge thick one, unless you have one of those industrial size washers it would be best to go to the Laundry Mat. It is much to big for a regular washer even the large capacity one. It doesn't have the needed room to agitate correctly. Other than that just a good washing powder, color safe bleach, fabric softener, lots of quarters for the machine and an hour or so. If it is a dark color you'd better use cold water, it really all depends on what the fabric is made of and the color. Cold would be safe for all I guess. Spray any areas that need to be treated with shout before you put it in. You can dry it while you are there or just hang it out side. If you have one of those satin comforters you should use a mild detergent and the gentle cycle.
A regular thinner or smaller blanket might go in the home washer ok.

Always check the label! If it can go into a regular washing machine, follow the instructions! Sometimes comforters can be washed but our normal washingmachines are to small. Use an extra large washer at a laundry mat. If its dry clean only ( It does not sound like it is) take it to the cleaners. If you decide to wash it at home, cold water is the most color safe choice. Use a gentle and good laundry soap. Good luck!

i will't answer for all manufacturers of lodges/hotels. yet my boyfriend used to paintings for a Hilton property and that they washed theirs after each and every customer. So in case you stayed there 4 days, you will get sparkling sheets every day, yet not a sparkling comforter. That comforter could be replaced till now the subsequent customer in that room despite the fact that. I even have heard rumors that decrease priced places do not wash comforters very in many circumstances, like as quickly as a month, yet I have not have been given any evidence.

You can wash it in cold water with a cup of vinegar and a couple tablespoons of epsom salt. The vinegar and epsom salt will set the color so it does not fade. A gentle detergent such as Ivory Snow would be best if the comforter is not too dirty. In any event be sure the detergent does not contain any bleach alternatives.

If your washing machine is normal or large, I would. I have washed mine often. If the machine gets unbalanced and buzzes rearrange the thing inside. I have even added a towel to the load to prevent this happening. Use a dark towel and it won't matter if the navy runs a bit.

I would think that a cold-water wash should be fine, but I'd recommend that you hang-dry your comforter afterwards. Personally, I've always taken my comforters off to the nearest drycleaner when the need arises.
