When you first Power On the computer its goes through POST i.e Power ON Self Test. Here your computer test for the peripherals attached if it does not find any bootable device it gives you an error "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" it seems your computer is not detecting your Hard drive. I would sugest you backing up all your personal data .Then replace your Hard drive

Either your hardrive´s cable has come loose, your Hard drive is a gonner, or your bootstrap information on the harddrive is faulty/gone.

Get a free copy of Linux (Knoppix) from some magazine, it boots from the CD drive. Then try to access the hard drive from there, if this is successfull then the windows bootstrap on your hard drive has been changed, possibly by a virus. Format the drive and re-install windows.

As far I presume your XP installation is now corrupted, all you need is reinstalling the XP HE+SP2 again. If that does not help then you can be sure of a hard disc failure. Don't try to recover the previous XP installation when reinstalling, it will add to the mess.

I think your bios is set to boot from Harddrive and that could mean maybe the harddrive is failing.
