I know the label doesn't really matter, but I'm just curious for others' opinions on this. My boyfriend and I are in college and have been dating for more than a year. Last month, after a lot of thinking and talking together, we mutually and very joyfully decided to get married a year or so after we graduate. Does this mean we're engaged? I know that there won't be like... one day when he gets down on his knee with a ring and asks me, marking an engagement... but then what is this status called, if not "engaged"? Thanks!

Until you have some kind of ring (promise/engagement) you are still just dating. Guess now you could say your seriously dating. Just because you talked about getting married doesn't get him out of officially asking you - or you asking him to marry you if your into that

if you don't have a ring your not considered engaged .. your still considered b/f & g/f .... if he won't propose to you (traditonally) and you start planning a wedding than its confusing but generally there is some sort of symbol for promise ... (ie: the ring).
