Peyton Manning. Tom Brady, Joe Montana (except for that one in 1990 in the NFC title game), Terry Bradshaw (in his prime, when he came in he got leveled and when he got out, it was the same way), Troy Aikman (except for his last few years), Phillip Rivers, and list could go on. It is not about statistics over a career because a QB could be on his back alot one year, but standing tall the next. It really depends on the O-line and the offensive schemes. Even Dan Marino spent a couple of years where he was running around (remember all the padding he used to wear in the late 90's).

Peyton Manning gets sacked quite frequently. He's never worked on his weakness for the blitz and because of that will never be able to win a Super Bowl. Last year, the Steelers and Chargers beat him with the blitz. Back when the Patriots could still play defense, they'd always beat him. The team that will beat the Colts this year is most likely the Baltimore Ravens, due to their dominating 46 defense that always finds a way to get a few guys in the backfield. Peyton Manning is protected by a great O-line, which has prevented him from playing as poorly as Drew Bledsoe, whom is also well known for protecting himself at his team's expense.

Honestly, the QBs that never get sacked are the scramblers. Steve McNair rarely goes down. He'll either toss the ball away or if he's got running room, get a first down or TD. Randall Cunningham prior to his injury is another good example. He was Michael Vick, only a competent passer as well as a great runner. Honestly, if you look at a list of QBs that are rarely sacked, you'll see mostly champions on that list. Steve Young was mobile enough to get away from a sack. So was Joe Montana. Last year when Roethlisberger was healthy, he took advantage of what little mobility he had to avoid sacks and his team won the Super Bowl as a result.

What separates the elite QBs from the merely adequate is the ability to avoid sacks without forcing plays. Daunte Culpepper never developed that ability and hid behind his physical abilities until he was eventually exposed. Peyton Manning would have been exposed had he traded places with Ryan Leaf, as very nearly happened. If you watch a game and see the QB getting sacked, you can tell that you're watching a bad QB.

I love how people list Aikmen and Young...2 QBs who both had to retire from concussions due to getting hit....Manning actually does not get sacked much, Elway didnt really get sacked much, Cunningham was good at avoiding the sack.

James Harris of the Rams. He was one burly dude and also had a great line to protect him. He was also one of the first African Americans to start at QB if not the first. He took over after Roman Gabriel went to the Eagles.

Yes, Dan Marino had great pass blocking, good foot work and a lightning like release. That keep him off his backside.
