I think India have to do a lot of spadework to earn that kind of respect.
I have been to India and also to China twice. I am doing business with these two countries. I saw them and could compare the basic differences between these two emerging countries vying to be the Top Economic Power within next 20 years.
The Indians are very good in English and also in brainpower. They are also a bit 'smarter' in compare to the others in the vicinity. They can easily win in any type of negotiations be it business or be it political etc., as their professionalism is very high whatever they embark on.
The Chinese are thoroughly 'disciplined' and apparently very well mannered people in the field of business or political negotiation. Their weakness is lack of knowledge in English which made them lose some ground to the Indians. However, Chinese are slowly and gradually building their reputation for integrity and brinkmanship, as a result Chinese are viewed with respect in world arena in compare to the Indians at this moment.
In the light of above, I can safely say that P.R.China would take over the world well before the Indians can come near to it.
