Why do Republicans push for discrimination at the national level? Republicans fought against rights for women and blacks. Now gays. Why do Republicans fear gays?

If the Democrats are pushing for gay marriage, why then did Bill Clinton and Al Gore sign into law the Defense Of Marrigae bill, stating marriage is between one woman, one man ONLY?

Democrats lie to get votes,as people will see during the next couple of years when all of the troops they promised to bring home are still in Iraq..

Gay Marriage was just defeated in my state and it will now become a State Amendment.
Gays typically vote Democratic so if the donkeys keep trying to push for it - it is because their base tells them to.

Support for gay marriage is not part of the Democratic party platform and no Democrat that I have ever heard of has "pushed for gay marriage at the national level." In fact, several prominant Democrats, including John Kerry, are on the record against gay marriage (but in favor of civil partnerships).
You are also wrong about it beingdefeated in every state (kind of): in last week's elections, Arizona voters voted AGAINST a measure to ban gay marriage.

I don't know. Is this really a given? You haven't established the fact that all or even a majority of Democrats are for this.
I think that it's time for Democrats and gays to re-evaluate their priorities. Is gay marriage really so essential? Are there not other ways to ensure economic security for a partner?
If you were to discuss this with Blue Dog Democrats, you might find a way to drive a wedge in the party on this. For one, I'm thinking of the possibility to compromise in some way. If the Republicans and Moral Majority were to reconsider their lack of position or their opposition to environmentalism, I would consider supporting their stand on defending traditional marriage.
If the Republicans were to clean up corruption in their ranks, maybe they would have a leg to stand on. Right now, their opposition to gay marriage smacks of homophobia. And look at the fellow who pastored the church in Colorado Springs, that Haggard. What a hypocrite.
Why don't republicans put their actions into synch with their words?

why do republicans continue to focus on issues that the American people by and large don't care about ? Statistically one in 4 Americans is an evangelical ( I don't know if I believe that, but that's what they claim ) but the top three issues from the exit poll's were Iraq, Economy and Corruption.
I think the better question would be .. why is the right always avoiding the issues that matter most ? Or more over that are the most important to Americans ?

They don't. Democrats considered this a state issue. It's the Republicans that wanted the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in all states, to PROHIBIT states from deciding for themselves.

Let's see what happens in Massachusetts over the next couple of years.
It's looking like the people who have actually lived with it are realising that same-sex marriage does absolutely nothing to undermine het marriage.
And trust me, the dems aren't pushing for it. They are way too 'moderate' for that. (Anyone here old enough to remember way back when 'liberal' actually meant something?)

It could be a diversion from the important topics.
You know, things like getting you people more pay for the hard work you do.
I'd keep writing and telephoning the elected officals, reminding them that your vote got them there, and that it's time to take care of the constituients.
