A lot depends on where you are planning to travel. You should always make plans ahead as to where you will be staying. How will you get to your destination. Make copies of all important papers, and First page of your passport. Keep them in separate places. Utilize the hotel safe for valuables, and try to not stand out so much as a tourist. Before landing at your port of entry and they pass out the immigration forms, ask for 2 fill them both out and give one to the immigration desk on arrival, and keep one as it will have important info on it should you lose your papers. Don't forget to have a inkpen with you as you fly. A lot of places have pickpockets, don't be distracted. Most pickpockets work in tandum, or groups of people. Don't go out at night without friends you trust. Let someone know where you are going to be, and notify your bank, and credit card companies, in advance of your trip so that they will not think that someone else is trying to use them while you are there otherwise they may refuse payment and you will not only be embaresed, but possibly in trouble. Also confirm your return flight a couple days before you are to return.

I'm a female over 35, and I travelled to and around Britain for three weeks recently. I never felt I was in danger, but I always made sure I knew exactly where my ATM card and camera were.

The great thing about travelling alone as an independent traveller is that you can plan your trip to go to the places you want to go, and you don't have to go anywhere you don't particularly want to see (unless you have an overly-enthusiastic host). I planned to spend the weekend in a religious community, spend another night in a haunted castle, be at the top of the London Eye at sunset, visit the medieval fortress of my ancestors, see the moon set among the Standing Stones of Calanais, meet up with old friends, and meet people in person I only knew from online.

I did not plan to take a bus past Loch Lomond, have tea in a castle, or walk into the church where my ancestor was a minister in the 17th century. Those were surprises!

YES! But so is living anywhere. There is always a risk. Years ago while in Japan, I met there different ladies that were traveling around the world alone. A lot depends on your luck, resources and preparation and common sense.

First I would try in advance to make a list of contacts/friends in each location you plan to travel. A good source would be your church/religious organization. Hook up with different YWCA clubs.
You don't give much info on your financial status or where you plan to travel. If you are into sports net work with local club members or businesses.
Good luck.

As people have said earlier, it depends on where you are traveling. If Europe, there is no problem.

I have gone by myself to the Netherlands, London and China. I was not on a tour.

The most difficult part is knowing what to do with myself at night--it's difficult because if you are at a pub or whatever, it's assumed you are looking to be picked up.

Don't spend your life waiting for other people or you'll never do what you want to do!

Certainly not! If you would feel more comfortable, sign up with a tour group. Or go it alone and have a great adventure! Plan carefully and use common sense, just as you do at home!

I think it depends where you want to go alone.

To places like France and the U.S.A im sure you would be fine but I would be very wary of going solo to places like Bulgaria and the like.

People just vanish so I would stick to the more well worn tourist routes werever you go.

Have fun dollface anyway =D
