The US vetoed yet another UN Resolution chastising Israel for attacks on Gaza. I understand supporting our allies, but can anyone rationally explain to me why we continue to defy world opinion and justify Israeli attacks, when we would support and initiate the same condemnation if perpetrated by other nations?

You know, a year ago I would have argued this with you. Today I can't. I don't have a problem with the US coming to the defense of Israel. They have a right to exist and noone can deny that the land they are on was theirs over 2000 years ago.

I do have a problem with Israel today though. Israel has taken the good will of the American people *and* the American Government and used it to contribute to the anarchy we are seeing today. I just don't see how their behavior over the last couple of years is justified. I am in no way shape or form supportive of Hezbollah or Hamas but Israel is stirring the pot and it is the United States that is going to pay the ultimate price. As a matter of fact, we already are.

I also have little to no faith in the United Nations. They have proven themselves to be spineless jerks and don't even come close to honoring the Charter set forth by the United Nations years ago.

Somebody somewhere needs to tell Israel enough is enough. They have the right to exist and we will help insure that right but the Israel of today really is no better than the organizations they are fighting against. You can not achieve peace by repeatedly killing innocent civilians. I don't give a hoot if it is in self-defense or not. It is clear Israel is incapable of controlling their own military. I am tired of it.

Because the scumbags that keep firing missiles into Israeli territory often do it from neighborhoods knowing that the Israeli's will be vilified by the loudmouthed anti-Israeli countries of the UN when they strike back and civilian casualties occur. It's all part of the game. Since 1949 the State of Israel has far and away exceeded the the standard of living of the knuckleheads that wish to see their demise and their existence erased. They are the envy of their jealous neighbors.
The Israeli's have lived with terrorism on a day to day basis for years and they have beaten back treacherous multi nation attacks from their neighbors on numerous occasions.
THE UNITED NATIONS SUCK PERIOD.
That useless organization should be thrown out of the US and some other leeching country should foot the bill for their useless activities.
So who cares what a bunch of do nothing but talk members of the UN think or say?
I'm glad we still have the balls to call a spade a spade!
Beware my friends, the move is on for a global government that threatens US sovereignty.
If you think our tax dollars are being wasted now just wait until we are mandated to foot the bill for the all the problems of the world.
Can you imagine worldwide welfare?
That is the utopia of the liberal agenda.

The United States vetoed that "condemnation" resolution for the very same reason your question is slanted: the phrasing.

Israel didn't attack Gaza, they retaliated for yet another Kassam rocket barrage.

Was it a mistake by the IDF to kill seventeen or so civilians? Yes, of course it was.

Don't make it seem as if the Israelis indiscriminately conduct military operations.

Our politicians are on the payroll of the AIPAC.

We (I) know it is a problem and hope our new congress can deal with Israel with a little less bias.

Please remeber that the resolution was more than just a chastising document. It called for Israel to leave all of Gaza.

(How many vetos have China and Russia used?)

Because jews control America.
Jews have money, US parties get funded by people with money for thier campagn´s, when they win the donators want something back.

Amazing that they kicked Iraq out of kuwait for invading, but do nothing about the Jews invasion of palastine.

The palastinians are firing rockets and such because they are in one big concentration camp and like a cat in a corner have nothing else as an option. You´d think they jews would have learned from the 2nd World war horrors that this behaviour isn´t nice.

Why is Israel the ONLY country whose very right to exist is continually denied? Why are they required to hold to a higher standard than every other nation -- when they are under constant attack by their neighbours?

Israel is far from perfect. But these problems won't be sorted until we all understand the role that its neighbours play in them.

As for the U.S. government, they're using Israel for their own agenda.

Sure, just answer a simple question. When is the UN going to formulate a resolution condeming the Palestinians for shooting anti-personnel rockets into Israel and provoking retaliatory attacks? Could it be that you're one of those types that believe it's perfectly OK for that because, hey, they're only shooting at Jews?

The radical rightwing regime of Mr. Bush is highly ideologically oriented. They are clearly willing to sacrifice truth for cynical political gains. AIPAC is a very powerful force behind BushCo. The obvious hypocrisy of a radical regime that will veto the Israeli massacre and defend torture while trying to finger the Chinese for human rights violations is mind boggling. They've entirely shot our credibility on human rights. We can only hope the new Democratic congress will stand up against this travesty.

Because global opinion doesn't mean a darned thing here in America. Get comfortable with that. We are an independent nation, wether or not you want to admit that. And we always will be, no matter how utopian internationalist pipe dreamers like yourself wish it weren't so.
If we as Americans allow world opinion to dictate our actions, we are quite literally doomed to servitude to those who hate us. How on Earth can you want that for us?
