I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier standard and I believe the clutch has gone out but I'm not sure. I cannot go pass 1st or 2nd. And right as that happened I was driving and couldn't shift and the engine would rev up but the car would go faster. If anyone know what the exact problem is and about how much that would cost, I'd appreciate it.

yes your clutch is on its way out. I wouldnt drive it except to the mechanic.
I guess you are in the USA.
Im not sure mechanical rates there but here i would pay no more than $500:00
Thats pretty basic for that model here.
Or get the clutch kit yourself and ask a male friend to fit for you.
They are very basic but a little bit of heavy lifting involved.

You weren't real specific here, and there could be more than one thing wrong. I'm assuming that the engine revved up and the car WOULDN'T go faster. That indicates a slipping clutch. It may be that it needs adjustment; clutches wear and if you don't adjust them they start slipping. They don't have to be replaced for this, the adjustment nut is always fairly easy to get to. The other problem is not being able to get past 1st or 2nd gear. This could be a linkage adjustment problem or it could be a problem disengaging the clutch. If the clutch is hydraulic, it may need a (fairly cheap) slave cylinder replacement. But if you don't "ride" the clutch (you should never rest your foot on it when driving) then the likelihood is that you drove it for a while and nothing was ever adjusted. Take it in and see if adjusting things helps before you start worrying about the real expensive things.

clutch is definitely gone!!!the cost of repairs will vary greatly from one area to another.best bet would be to get at least 5 est.before choosing a place to do the repairs. In this area 3-5 hundred dollars would be a good price range.which includes parts and labor.
