Child care is not an issue. Asking purely from a physical aspect. Vaginal birth, no complications.

I think it depends on how long of a leave you can afford - some people can only afford a week - others a 18 years.

I'm planning on takin the maximum allowed at my work - 12 weeks. I've been saving up my sick/vacation/person time!

She should be able to stay home as long as her child and her need to. From physical to mental emotions/connections. My youngest daughter is 2 and we are still not fully ready. I think come next fall we will try that step.
But if a woman must go back to work I would say no earlier then 2 to 3 months after giving birth.

I went back to work after my first child at 6 weeks, 8 weeks after my second. Both were C-sections. The main reason women don't go back to work right away- besides the lack of sleep- is not being able to drive for a while.

Most companies allow for 6 weeks, but that may be changing to 12 weeks, unpaid leave of course.
And that is not taking into consideration possible PPD that could make it harder to return to work, or do much of anything else for that matter.
It should basically be up to the woman.

Now, if there is a finanical neccessity, that could change the plan as well.
But if she is financially capable to, I would recommend her staying home as long as possible.

Physically I could've went back after 2 weeks. I had the best labor ever!!!! Mentally I needed to go back at about 4-6 weeks. Because you need adult interaction even though it's hard. Emotionally I would go back at about a year.

I agree with the law the woman should get 6 weeks off of work to care for and bond with her new baby. Good luck and God Bless

She should stay home with her baby as long as she possibly can. A *minimum* of 6 weeks for mom to heal. As far as what is best for the baby, the whole first year would be best! (or not until child goes to KG!)

If money isn't an issue then NEVER!!!! but if it is, then a month or two, but children are better off being raised by mommy . . . or daddy. Not some baby sitter that is only taking care of the baby for money to help themselves.

Our custom here for Chinese over in Malaysia is to let the mother stay at home for 30-60days or else she'll suffer internal illness when she gets old. this is the time that she'll need pampering and waiting for total health recovery.

Where I live women get one year off paid and their job held for them .(This may be changing to two years)

Physically they probably only need six weeks but luckily they take more than just that into consideration here.
