I put two of my good stainless steel pots together to use as a double boiler. When the water in the bottom pot got hot enough, it sucked the top one in and sealed the bond. Will putting them in the freezer help "unstick" them? And yes, there's still water in the bottom pot!

Heat the bottom pan slightly to expand the metal. Pour cold water in the top pan to contract the metal. They should come apart easily.

Putting them in the freezer will not help. By freezing them, you will expand the water that is between them thereby increasing the strength of the bond. Generally, what is used to "unstick" pots when they are stuck together is heat. What you need to do is to change the temperature between the two pots. If you heat the outside pot while cooling the inside one, that should give you the maximum expansion of the outside pot while at the same time giving you the maximum compression of the inside one.
Try freezing the pots but, when the water is frozen, take them out of the freezer and heat the outside pot. When the outside pot gets hot and water begins to form try pulling the inside pot out while it is still cold. You can put some ice cubes inside the inside pot to help keep that one cold. The water between the pots will also help by acting as a lubricant. Soap or oil added between the pots before you begin to heat the outside one will also help lubricate the pots to help them separate.

Good luck!

Heat causes metal to expand and cold causes it to contract, so put ice cubes or ice water in the inside pot and then sink the bottom pot in hot water.

Put the pans back on the burner on low. Put ice in the top one. Heat will expand and ice will contract.
