A grower grows trees specifically for selling during Christmas time, and they are replanted year after year. I would think that this is the best option because eventually the fake tree will be thrown out. I live in Louisiana and there is an effort here to take the real trees and place them strategically in the marsh to help stop the deterioration of our wetlands. If they can't do anything useful with the trees in your area after using them, at least they will eventually decompose, and they are replaced...not harvested from the forest.

I think as far as the tree is concerned if you truly are going to buy a good fake tree they will last you at least 10 years. That is 10 trees you are saving. When you've had enough of your tree after 10 years you can sell it on Ebay and get a new one and someone else can get the good of it.
The main trouble with real trees is not that they won't replant them but that you see them littering the streets for weeks afterwards decaying reminders of what has been. Very few people know how to dispose of their trees and the bin men don't take them.

If I were a good garden, that's a fab idea to replant each year, but everything seems to die on me, so a huge well made expensive tree, to use year after year after year, adding to it, year after year some wonderful trinkets, the children bring their children and hopefully will bring their children to help dress it, and each year the memories of all the other past Christmas's are recalled.
Tried a DESIGNER tree and all one colour baubles one year, they HATED it!
The oldies are the best eh!?

Buy a real tree and return it to the earth. Sometimes I would take the tree out and pour honey all over it and then sprinkle bird seed on it. It makes a great shelter and feeding place for wildlife.

I would say both It depends on how you feel they are both environmentally good. Although tress take longer to grow they have probably done this for years and have tons of trees that can be used and planted again

We have been using a fake one for years. It's less messy (no pine needles to clean up like a real tree) and cheaper.
If you want that pine smell fragrance you can buy one one eBay-----> http://search.ebay.com/pine-fragrance_W0QQcatrefZC6QQfcclZ1QQfclZ4QQfposZ08512QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsacatZQ2d1QQsadisZ200QQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbsQQsubmitsearchZSearch
