Ok....so basically chill out.Its a bladder infection. The SWIM bladder,to be precise.Other symptoms can include enlarged rear area and redness of the rear area. Its usually caused by bacteria from insufficient cleaning of the tanks. They sell antibacterial solutions on the market,so hit that store ASAP,or it'll die about 2-3 days at most after the floating.Look for SWIM BLADDER antibacterial solutions. It should be greenish in colour.Either that or buy the wide-spectrum antibacterial solution.

Goldfish Floating

2016-11-17 01:28:02 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

You need to be more specific with your question. First I would like to know the size of the tank the fish is in? Second are there other type's of fish in with the gold fish? Have you been maintaining the tank, (cleaning, changing filters, checking water heater, etc. That being said I can tell you that gold fish need a lot of care. They are one of the most dirty fish you can own so tank cleaning is important. If the fish is floating on its side or back it will most likely die. I'm sorry about that but gold fish get sick very easy and the health of the tank is most important with any kind of fish. You must realize that the fish witch used to live in open water were the Eco system was balanced is now in a tank...You need to ask your questions giving enough information so someone can help...Good luck...

Have you cycled your tank? You do realize that you can't just dump raw tap water into a fish tank, and expect your fish to live in it, do you? Also, if you have eight Fancy Goldfish, you should know you NEED at LEAST a 100 gallon tank with a filter for a 120-150 gallon tank. If you have Comet/Shubunkin/Koi fish, you will need at LEAST a 200-250 gallon tank, with a filter for a 300 gallon tank. Fish do not sleep on their sides, so I'm guessing you have like a 10 gallon tank, and just dumped some raw tap water in it before cycling your tank, and expect them to live. Fish sleep by hovering above the ground, flittering their fins only a little bit. It is obvious that you have not done ANY research before getting your Goldfish, and ended up killing them.

What is a good size tank? For goldfish 10+ gallons per fish is recommended. What are the water parameters? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Have you tested the water? Ammonia and nitrite should be 0 ppm Nitrate should be 20 ppm or below pH should be around 7.2 to 7.8 When was the last time you changed your water? Are your fish eating? If so, that is a good sign. Are they moving their gills? dead fish should never be flushed. if you do you are probably contaminating the water supply.

If a gold fish floats in a fish tank it is very sick and
about to die, or already dead.

It porbably has ICK.

There is medicine to cure that, but by the time you
read this it will be to late to go to the store and buy
ICK medicine to add to your fish bowl water. Get
another gold fish "after you change the water in that
fish bowl and let it set undisturbed for 48 hours."

Try not to stress him out or make too much noise or movement around the tank. But the reason they float is because he probably injured his water bladder and that's what keeps him level in the water to be able to swim, but if he's floating then he's no longer able to float himself and will likely die. Sorry :(

Sorry, some people are so mean, I'm not sure if this will help or not but try to get him to swim take you hand and see if he will swim when you touch him or get close to him. Fish have these air pockets things (not sure what they are called) that help stay balanced if something happen to it they can swim and will die..
Sorry, Hope this helps.
