Affect is a verb and it means : "to have an effect on ".

Effect is a noun.

Affect has a derrivative noun- affection, but I guess there's no way you could mistake it for the word effect. (for example: Dan had a great affection for his co-worker Jane).

:)))cheers!

"Affect" is the result or appearance that something or someone makes. eg. If I put a drop of blue paint into a dish if yellow paint, how would it AFFECT it? It would turn it greenish.
So, that is how it would AFFECT it, but the turning greenish would be an EFFECT.
An effect is something caused or produced; a result, a consequence.

use affect to denote something having an influence on something else. Use effect to denote something brought about by a cause or and agent.
