i have a 256 kbps dsl connection and an hp laptop that supports a/b/g. i need at least 54 mbps and below $50
i have only one laptop and no other system in my house
i basically want to access my internet wirelessly

I agree with most of the other answers,Linksys makes the best.If you need a more budget conscious brand check out Netgear.Stick with the "G" compliancy because the new "N" compliancy is far more than you will want to spend.If you can try to purchase one with a built in firewall.

I have the Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router. Check it out at www.linksys.com ----it works perfectly!

Go with the Linksys wireless Router. It is so easy to hook up. I have the WRT54G .... So easy to run. Works great.

i wouldn't think you would get much more than 54mbps out of wireless anyway. not for that price. i think you may need to at least double your budget if it's"new" you're after. anything made by 3com should put you in good stead, i've used them for years no problem.
