Those who know dare fish keeping question?

I have a shak who is starting to get fin rot Iwould like to put him aside in a hospital tank but the only thing I have is a old 1 gallon betta bowl could I use that for a hospital tank? if so how long?

A hospital tank still needs water flow. You should be able to medicate the shark in with the other fish, especially if the other fish get sick too. You don't know if the shark has given the disease to the other fish. Better to be safe than sorry and medicate them all.

Fin rot can be contageous, therefore your entire acquarium population has been exposed to the disease.

I would treat the entire acquarium with the proper medication. The bacteria is in the water, the gravel, and probably on some of your other fish.

If you treat just the shark, and eventually put him back into a tank that hasn't been treated, he will most probably pick up the disease again because he has already been exposed and weakened to the disease.

BTW, any fish will need proper circulation, filtration, and feeding if you decide to isolate them for medical reasons, etc. So a 1 gallon bowl is not a good idea for a fish that can only use its gills to oxygen.

Betta's and Gouramies all have a labrynth organ that allows them to gulp air from the surface of the water and that is why they can survive in a gold fish bowl.

Other fish cannot do that and the way to get air/oxygen into the water for them is to provide good circulation of the water because as it passes along the surface, it will absorb the air/oxygen. If the air is stagnant as in a gold fish bowl the fish becomes stressed from lack of oxygen and may die from the lack of air, or the disease will weaken him and he will die.
