I have a Chinese Elm tree growing in my garden. I have to prune it vigorously all the time to give the surrounding plants access to sunlight. It is about 15 years old (or more) How can I kill it?

theres this tree in front of my house that my dad has been trying to get rid of. his latest idea to to pour cooking oil into the soil. the cooking oil he uses is oil that is left over from frying stuff or bacon fat. ahaahaha.

Alternatively you could tie a very tight cord around it, near the soil, for a year or more and it will die of suffocation. the cord will prevent the nutrients from the soil going into the tree. My first choice though is to borrow that fella's chain saw and offer the wood to a woodburning family for the winter stove use.
Or remove the plants under it to other places. I am a mine of information this morning!

Try hammering copper nails into the base of the tree. Rumor has it that will kill it in no time.
