a ban can only lead to illegal trading of whatever substance you ban where gangs can muscle in in a very lucrative market, engendering violence and eventually to damage to innocent by standers. just because you ban something does not mean that they will disappear. they'll just go underground and thereby creating more problems. what we need is to make people more aware of the dangers and be more responsible for their health and their lives. we can't nanny people forever to protect them from themselves. if they want to drink or drug themselves to death, that's their choice. it's a free country.

Can I just choose both?... Okay, for me, illegal drugs. I think drugs can do greater damage to the person's whole being and extreme damage physically, especially with the brain. Addicts are getting more and more innovative in drugs nowadays;and drug desperates can use anything just to feed their system with it. Addicts today are also getting younger by the minute; well, it's worse than alcohol. Drinking alcohol exessively can cause an unstable mind which can cause lots of damage or even the person's life; but illegal drugs can do more than that.

In all fairness neither are any good for society are they? It seems hypocritical that drugs are currently banned and alcohol isn't.
I should like to point out that where a certain good or service is banned it is almost easily available via certain social circles, where those circles include thugs and criminals. This is why some normally good citizens will end up being criminals. If both alcohol and drugs were legal then people wouldn't need to mix with these people and therefore wouldn't end up criminals themselves.
Both the arguments for and against are good ones.

gosh that's a tuff one... don't do drugs so the easy answer for me should be drugs but i,ve lived with and seen first hand the terrible power alcohol can have over some people so from my point of view I'd rather live in an alcohol free world

Alcohol does far more damage to far more people than drugs, but I couldn't imagine a life without a pint of Stella in it, so, erm, not sure.
Illegal drugs are already kind of banned aren't they, by virtue of being illegal.

alcohol... it makes me wonder if those electronic voting machines were not working just right, everyone I know wants to at least legalize cannabis, so why haven't any of those initiatives passed?...
p.s... as someone with health problems I can tell you which one is more physically damaging, it's "alcohol" and I resent people who, while sucking down a cold beer, try to tell me that I can never have an intoxicant again... I really do wish that alcohol was banned and that a drug test would be made to keep people from getting or keeping jobs for 30 days after they've drank, I would really find it amusing to see them ostracized in their communities for a change.
