The SAS badge is actually the winged dagger!

A dagger with just laurel leaves was a WW2 Pathfinders unit that as far as I know later became the Royal Marine Commandos.

For the answer down below the SAS were actually formed from the Long Range Desert Group being originally all Scots Guardsmen! As was the founder Lt David Stirling 1st Bn Scots Guards.

I am confused....

A globe and laurels Is the cap badge of 45 Commando, many of whom went on to form the SBS, not the SAS, whom have a winged Dagger

the marines all have the globe and laurels as a cap badge, but the 45 and 46 commando unit have a single dagger as their symbol, but it is on the shoulder.

42 have an anchor, 40 dolphin....

They had to be a marine unit to be commandos, The SAS were formed in 1941 in North Africa out of the tradition of the older Artist Rifle Regiment, who had Mars and Minerva as their cap badge.

The SBS now have a silver dagger with two blue bands.

Perhaps it was one of the WW2 commando units belonging to foreign units, I know the Dutch commandos have a brass lion, the Polish had a wings, like the hussars...

Definitely not the SAS! Its symbol is a winged dagger with the motto "Who Dares Win" inscribed beneath.

It's most likely the 45th Commando Regiment & hey, the question refers to the cap badge, not what was literally worn by the soldier.

SAS...that is their insignia

I wouldn't like to go into battle wearing a dagger and laurel leaves though.
