I work on Christmas every year as a gift to those who need care. I work in a hospital. Sometimes I work in the ER on Christmas eve and night. I do spend the morning with my family.

The Pilgrims survival depended on getting firewood and food for themselves, today life is easy and can not be compared to the hard times the Pilgrims faced. About the British, where did you get that idea?

Working or not working on Christmas has nothing to do with the Pilgrims, it is simply a personal choice.

For many people it has become a traditional time to spend time with their family. Some work so that others can take time off. Others work because they hold jobs which are necessary (i.e., fire fighters, medical personnel, etc.) and some work simply because they like to work.

No, we have come so far since then, it's kind of like asking if we should still be going to the bathroom outiside in outhouses and not using electricity because they didn't. Things got better for us for a reason.

I want to spend Christmas with my family. I work at a school so I would be off anyway.
