Improving oratory skills, identifying the issues that have pros and cons, plus and minus, for and against, good and bad, beauty and ugly.

It enlightens in a few ways but not in the whole complete sense of enlightenment. Debate is but one of many tools, not in isolation but with other skills, to lead to that direction.

The easiest is the ability to distinguish two different things. This seems obvious at first but as issues grow deeper and more difficult, their purposes entwine and that is where the person who can tell one from another has a better chance of knowing the real nature.

By knowing the real nature, people can choose to reject or accept it, which is where many religions fail in this line of study because many require some things to be accepted without questioning.

Questioning is not to be argumentative and debate is not meant to be either. Rather it is the first step to find the first issues before anybody can really start to ask questions.

Would you prefer to ask a thousand questions that could be all wrong or not relevant, or a few questions that can answer what you seek ?
