Does anyone know if they are an endangered species?? I have had one for about 18 years - I recently moved to Singapore from the US for business and left the turtle with my mom but I heard they are endangered and if I reported having him, they would take him away - is this true?

They are usually illegal to capture in most of their range since they are endangered in the wild.

It is REALLY unlikely they would take it away- the laws about such things are not usually worth the trouble to prosecute against the average pet keeper- usually enforced against people who collect several for resale.

they are not endangered yet but they are getting rare, each state has a web site that lists protected and endangered animals and plants, see if its listed on your state site
we have several that we've had for 25 yrs
i heard about a woman that moved to arizona with her 45 yr old turtle and they tried to take it away from her!

Hi Jonela,
If you are thinking of sending your turtle to Singapore...my advise is to check with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA).

Cheers...

they aren't neccesarily endangered. I think it depends on the region. Also it depends how you got it. If you got it from the wild... it might be endangered or illegal to own in your region. If you got it froma pet store, it's pretty safe.

Hope this helped :)
