Helen Keller would have turned 125 this month. She was born on June 27, 1880.
Though Keller was one of the most famous women in the world during her life, most people now do not know her as the woman she was; the activist, peacemaker and women's rights advocate.

Oprah Winfrey may be famous in the USA, but hardly the world - the vast majority of people out of the English speaking world (and we are NOT the majority) have probably never heard of her and even in the English but non-US parts of the world she is well known, but hardly qualifies as the most famous.

At the moment Condoleeza Rice is probably the most well known, although I would use the word "Infamous" where she is concerned.

The most famous? As in now or ever?

I don't know. I would like to say Maria Curie, but I know that's not the case. She was very influential for women in the science world. A true inspiration.

Just my two cents.

depends on what you mean as famous! famous for what? what one woman influenced the world the most? Margret Thatcher in politics which had influence in every country (which involved politics, world trade, international law, medicine, military etc etc). my opinion. Other famous women had influence in certain areas like medicine, religion. But influence all over the world..I still would have to say Thatcher..Good question and l look forward to seeing some of the answers..Good Luck

Well it was Mother Theresea, but she is gone, then there was Princess Dianna ,but now she is gone.
I would have to say Condalizza Rice,or Hillary Clinton right now.
Margaret Thatcher was pretty world renowned when she was Prime Minister. Angalina Jolie and Madonna also gets alot of press for their adoptions and goodwill ,as well as their movies and songs.
Indirha Ghandi was also quite the stateswoman until her early demise.
Katie Curic is in the spotlight quite a bit with her news show, but her curt comments will eventually catch up to her I think.
