If you take proper care after they pair have bred, you can end up with dozens of fry.

The female has a substantial number of eggs and the male will maintain those eggs in the nest. He will tend the hatchlings and make sure each is held in a bubble in the nest also.

The things you have to do are:

Remove the female from the tank after the pair have bred. The male will take great care of the eggs/fry.

Be very careful how you approach the tank they are in. If you scare the male or cause him stress, he may just eat every egg/fry in the nest.

Remove the male after the fry have absorbed their yolk sacs and are viable swimmers on their own.

As the fry grow, you will have to eventually put them in separate containers.

Do a google search on Siamese Fighting Fish or Betta Splendens for info about them. You should be able to get a lot of into that way.

I used to breed Betta's but I had set up special tanks for the intended breeding pair where they were in the same 5 gallon tank but separated by a clear plexiglass panel with hundreds of holes in it. I fed them highly nutritious food for weeks while I had them in that tank. You could easily tell when they were ready to breed by all the flirtations and "dancing" with one anothe they did. I'd remove the plexiglass barrier and normally they would breed within a few minutes. If you do everything right before, during, and after they breed you can easily end up with 2 or 3 dozen viable babies.

Hope this helps.
