I been in trouble with this friend of mine. Her IM window pops up out of blue and she goes on to insult me, apparently angry that I'm hiding my IM.
I did this, however, to do some work and not get any interruptions from my contacts. However, I am unable, of course, to hide from non-contacts. This was what caused this recent hassle.
Is it wrong of me to want some peace and quiet and not be at everyone elses beck and call? Should not have a life of my own, but instead live to service everyone else?
Tell me your opinions.

You can go into your yahoo settings. select privacy/ignore. You can select ignore anyone not on my buddy list.I have that setting.
Firstly..you are an individual, who like everyone
is entitled to their own time. If it was wrong to get busy and not be there to answer ims, there is no sin in that. Think about this..Yahoo has provided *appear offline* to individuals or everyone on your buddy list.
People are so demanding. Sometimes I get really rude ims, saying I am ignoring them. I have to laugh because..for one I remind them, I have other things going on,and I am not always at my pc. I remind them also that they are NOT the only person on my buddy list.If I am already talking to 2 or 3 people and doing other stuff, I don't answer any other IMs. In fact you can also select your *Busy/away/ and add your own away messages.
It is Your yahoo. You pay your internet bills, you run your own show.
Don't be a doormat.
You see my point?
People like that are selfish. You don't need friends like that. If I were you, I would set boundaries. That's the way to do it.
Good luck..Peace!!!

I don't know about you, but the IM contacts must always be close friends and people who you love talking to so that you never need to hide from them...If it's peace you want just have it closed...

And about that girl...there's the ignore list you know (but I suggest you try to work things out if she is a good friend of yours)

And by all means you have your right to some peace and quiet, but I don't think you have to blame your friends for anything.

Nonetheless you should know better.....

There is nothing wrong with her. Girls can be so clingy sometimes. Tell her to give u some space and u'll talk 2 her when ur available. It's not fair to u. U have evry right to do what u want. She can't run ur life.

If she is your friend why is she insulting you? And of course it is not wrong to want piece and quite, sometimes you want to have the chance to get away from it all. Tell and the other that you are busy, and that you will get back to them later

No, you just have to explain you are trying to do some work. Explain you can only hide from non-contacts (although can't you sign out all together?) Ask her if she respects that you neaded peace to do your work.

Wow, she's a bit of a control freak. I would tell her you'll message back when you fell like it and it's really none of her business. You have the right to respond as you wish.

do you need to sign into the messenger while you are online? peace and quiet would be no messages popping up on the screen.

No, you're not wrong. I do that all the time. If I didn't, I'd never get any peace.
