The things that keep me returning to a website is usually information that I'm interested in reading, humour, the page must load quickly so graphics must be small in size, no audio files being thrust on me as background music, no video that loads automatically that can use up valuable memory on my PC, as few ads as possible, no animated graphics unless it's pertinent to the page's content, and most of all, it must be kept fresh with new content at least twice weekly. If I return to a site, and the same stuff is loading as the last time that I viewed it, than I'm not apt to return for a good long while.

I seek the same informayion as you. I have been trying to get visitors to come back to mine...... I suppose the target audience is a key factor. And promoting it.
No adverts is good. Videos and photography. Something interactive too. Something with a database of information to refer to. Maybe a link database?
What's your web address?
Mine is down below...... will watch your question for your site address..... ;-)
*NEW*
Have looked at your site....... I am impressed. As you said, it has great potential to be developed further in the future.
I enjoyed the problem page....... but what girl wouldn't? Everyone loves to read about "the everyday people", I think it gives your site some edge.
I'm sure you know that there is loads of guitar tab out there....... ready for copy n paste..... lol Then you can build up a larger collection.
The only thing I would say is I was getting a bit lost on the homepage. I don't know the limitations on what you can do...... am sure you can sort that out later.
I am by no means an expert, but you have great informative content and I think there should be more sites like yours...........
Keep up the hard work!
I look forward to seeing more in the future.

Less advertisement.
I hate webpage which have more than 30% of the page filled with advertisement.
Not to much multimedia content which will slow down the loading speed.
But i don't like webpage that content only text and nothing else.
Some picture and flash image is good but i dont prefer music.
I like website which is easy to navigate. Must be very user friendly espescially for 1st timer to your site.
Must have "Search" tools.
White or light colour background is prefered.
I hate black, blue, red or sharp colour background which will make your eyes sick after looking at the page for a long time.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE...the "forwarder" which is crappy coding. What I'm talking about is when you hit a website, try to hit your back space button to leave that website but it continues to "forward" you back to the page you were just on..hence keeping you at that website.
When I hit those type of pages with that crappy coding...I NEVER go back.
