Easiest and cheapest is to connect a network cable to the two and set up a small home network then transfer files. At least you can pick and choose what you want to transfer at your leisure. It may also be the quickest way unless you do a backup of your old files onto disc and then install that on the new.

Depends how many files and your setup. You might be able to use a USB memory stick, or if it's a lot of files, then the way to go is to slave your old hard disk in your new PC.

alternatively a network is handy if you'll be keeping both pc's and they have a network cards, or even just a trusty old RS232 cable.

Good luck :¬)

I believe you need what is called a CROSSOVER cable which you connect to your Ethernet sockets, assuming your old computer has Ethernet connection of course. Or you could do it the way you said just remember that your old drive needs to be set as slave. Good Luck.

Depends what system you have! Xp has the wizard (under System tools) But you might need another computer or external drive to hold all the data. Alternativly take the hard drive out and put it in the new one (Only joking)

I used GMail - you have virtually unlimited memory space. Email yourself and attach all the files you want. Don't actually Email yourself; simply save in draft. Once you log on to your new pc, these items will still be in draft and you can download all the attachments! If you don't have Gmail let me know and I can invite you to set up an account. Good luck!

problem is with that xp usually shuts down. best way to do it is either use the original as a slave and transfer them over one by one or install a burner and put them on disc.
