During the space race the US spent millions developing a pen to write in zero gravity. The Russians used pencils. Today the cost of the pen is still 80 times that of a pencil. Are there other examples of common sense finding the best, cheapest, quickest, most obvious solution to a technical or general need?

I lke the USSR pencils - brilliant.
Not as simplistic, on-line Christmas shopping has to be a great saving in money, time & general hassle.

Paul V, Have you heard of the TIME and MOTION. It means,try to put the things you need within your reach. This is relation to time and effort. When it comes to money, DO NOT BUY things you can do without. Example, you don't have to subscribe to SKY TV if most of your waking is outside your home.
