It's all about the occasion or place you are going. I remember reading vogue once and they showed two women sitting outside a cafe at lunchtime. One was in smart jeans and a wool jumper, the other in a little black dress. They said the woman in the jeans had it right for the occassion, so exuded more style.

If it is a fairly casual meeting, go for smart jeans and a shirt with a plain jumper. Nothing looks better. Don't turn up in a tie for a casual meeting, unless you are coming from work perhaps, then that is understandable.

Obviously if you are going to a west end show with dinner afterwards, you can wear the tie and suit etc but otherwise it looks over the top.

Clean hair, fresh breath and smelling nice (but not that overpowering lynx stuff) and being friendly and good company usually works wonders for the ladies.

Yes I think a tie is too far if you are not going to a five star place, why not wear jeans, smart casual shirt left out with a jacket, cool accessories and good quality funky shoes. You cant go wrong.

I think you should wear a nice shirt and a clean pair of jeans with no holes. That always looks good. Jeans go with anything and your always safe wearing them. I wouldn't go with the tie unless your date is really serious. If it's just like a dinner and a movie kind of date just go with the nice shirt and jeans. Have a great time.

It really depends on your style and where the date is going to be.
Dinner:
If you're going for a curry and it's someplace rather good, wear an oxblood or claret coloured button up shirt with an orange t-shirt under it. Wear this with jeans (not carpenters, can't stress this enough), or white cotton trousers (linen if it's warm out).
If you're going for a kind of trendy but not upscale chinese restaurant. Wear a nice light blue or grey t-shirt with a cool belt (leather or ribbon, nothing else please) and a pair of jeans.
If good (very upscale) european cuisine wear (during the summer) white linen trousers, navy blue jacket, white shirt, and whatever day cravat is to your liking. (during the winter) Wear a pair of black trousers with a black shirt and claret coloured jacket.
Cinema:
To the cinema you can be rather creative but observe the proper seasons of the year and the climate control of the cinema. My advice for this time of the year is a cool t-shirt, jeans, nice blazer (possibly from your respective school/university), or a jumper from your school, and a matching scarf.
Café:
Basically the same as the cinema.

Really dress in whatever is comfortable and stylish is fine. Don't appear to over think things, the key is effortlessness. :^)

Let's start with some facts here before any advice is given on dress.

You wouldn't wear jean and a t-shirt to a night club. Then again, you would not wear a tux out to a casual lunch.

Where are you going on your date? Does the restaurant have a dress code? Are you looking to impress?

Suggestions:
- Lunch date: casual - go with jeans, slacks and a shirt
- Lunch date: impress - go with slacks and a button down or a stylish black sweater or vneck
- Dinner date: casual - go with slacks and a button down or a sweater
- Dinner date impress - go with jacket, and lose the tie

It also depends on your age, but I would love it if a man showed up dress in his jeans and shirt. A jacket is also fine if the weather is rather cold...but don't wear a tie, unless you go to fine dining. Good luck!

I think a tie is definately too formal.
I think a casual blazer, shirt or light knitwear, jeans and smart boots is a very good look in Autumn/Winter - looks like you made an effort but still casual. Muted colour is always good - too much black isn't very flattering on most men. If in the UK, Reiss, French Connection etc have a good selection for men.
I don't think jeans and trainers or shoes kooks very good.

depends where you are going, but you should always dress well to show respect for your date. A tie would be silly at a skating rink, but jeans unsuitable at a fancy restaurant. Always try to match the level of the place you are going and take into account what your date is likely to wear

well depends on where your going ..
if your going on a fancy date to a nice restaurant and stuff wear a nice shirt teamed with a tie, if your jus going to the local place or only for a drink, or dinner at ur house ditch the tie and wear a nice shirt with jeans... xxx good luck

Well if he is a fancy kinda guy maybe a Red dress. But if she is kinda casual maybe you should wear a skirt and shirt even though he might not be fancy doesn't mean you should stop being a girlie girly. Dress how you want and if he really loves you he will accept you for who are!!!

But if you a guy you should see what the girl is wearing first. If she is wearing a dress you wear a suit but other wise be your self dress like your self. She loves you for what is inside not your clothes
