The light came on suddenly and stays on?

there could be many reasons why your light came on,
1. because it might be time to replace the timing belt. most all ohv engines are preset to turn on the at 60,000 mi. or so by the manf. or 2.it's possible that one of the OBD systems has set a code
meaning there,s something that needs to repaired.

The check engine light is a warning that something in the onboard computer system is bad and needs repair. Also while this light is on the computer runs at default settings which do not always give the best preformance or gas mileage. If you live in an area that does emission testing this light can also affect the emissions test

Bring it to Autozone, they will read the code for free. Bring it to a local garage they can read the code on repair it.
